I bought Fallout 2 as well. I've played version 3 and New Vegas for a ridiculous amount of hours, but I had never even seen 1 and 2 until last week. It's interesting how, even with the 2D, turn based and quirky game mechanics, they still manage to create much of the same immersiveness as their modern 3D successors.
It is pretty cool. I've played 3 and New Vegas like crazy too. So far, I'm loving the first one, haven't played the second yet.
I'm still playing the first one too. Just had a bloody hard battle against super mutants in Necropolis. The trick (besides a fair bit of save-loading, I must admit) was to retreat around corners, causing them to spend all their action points on catching up every other round.
