Google+ on its way down?

God

I've finally gotten to the point where I am sick and tired of Facebook. It's gotten cumbersome and obese.

I gave it some thought at great length and decided to leave Facebook in less than a weeks time. When discussing this in a thread of mine on Facebook a friend of mine made the statement that Google+ was going the way of the Dodo or the Titanic. The only reason I see for something like Google+, which I am slowly starting to love (other than that stupid trends crap on my home + page) is that people are simply unwilling to make the move because their friends, games, etc, are sitting over on FB munching chips (crisps to some) on their collective sofas.

Is Google+ truly on its way out?
Will someone dethrone the evil Facebook?

Time to go look for the internet version of the Lady in the Lake... Excalibur must be around somewhere.

I've actually noticed a few new people popping up on G+, and you can get rid of that annoying trends bullshit. It's in the settings somewhere. I was thinking of going to Diaspora, but I want my own pod and I don't have a box to run it at the moment.

People have been claiming that G+ was on it's way out 5 mins after it launched, just your typical internet hating on Google, you get the most "rumors" right after Google adds a new or better feature than FB. Heck the updated G+ app is seriously nice and tons better than anything FB has release on any OS

Facebook dethroned Myspace, it's very likely something will dethrone FB. Things change and people are becoming more and more dissatisfied with it.

Why did that happen? Everyone I know left Myspace for Facebook because all their friends were on Facebook, but why did those friends go over to Facebook to begin with?

MySpace was completely horrible, slow and virus ridden by the time FB dethroned it, AOL owning it didn't help

Google+ is starting to kick in at the moment. Slow and steady but everything is falling into place. I was looking at chrome os in it's recent conjunction and it is now really starting to look like it has its place with Google drive. It's the long game, methinks

And filled with flashing gifs and twenty scrolled pages of glaring neon shit.

I have not been on Facebook since January. I'm not really missing anything.

I was considering Diaspora but I haven't felt the need to register & I have no desire to use Google +.

I've seen no option to disable that bit of the UI. I have sent feedback about it. Perhaps it will happen eventually.

I think it's in the dropdown menu on the feed itself. The option does exist, I got rid of it, but can't remember how. Maybe google it.

On the "whats hot" title in your stream click on the left. Bye Bye Trends.

Googling it just got me posts of people complaining about it and submitting suggestions.

Nope.

How to remove Google's spammy "Whats Hot" feature:
Hit up this webpage here (What's Hot settings) and adjust the slider bar to the left: https://plus.google.com/hot

It does not do as they say. All the way to the left does nothing to the trending column. Thanks for the info though.

Aha, I was mixing up trending with 'what's hot'. They are two separate shit streams. Dump trending with this custom adblock filter: plus.google.com##DIV[componentid="13"]

Works for me in FF.

Points for that one. Thanks griffin.

Just not sure how to point you other than the up arrow..

That's it. Oh, there was another thing I dumped, 'new & interesting'.

This filter worked for me in adblock. plus.google.com/_/apps-static/_/ss/sbw/ver=1zt5rm1yl1n3/am=!i9YzA1B3yX2JBf3iMTEVQu6oENFL7vM0mD8/bf=wgE/r=O/*

I suspect that yours would be different but similar. I sent feedback about crappy unwanted feeds too. Also about how feeds I want are stuck in three inches of screen, leaving the rest blank.

You can open up adblock and list 'blockable items on this page' or something like that. It's about two thirds down the list, or maybe a bit more.

I must say that Mark has done a much better job on that score than all the Google developers put together! The way Teoti can be styled is light years ahead of anything google or facebook have been able to do.

Thanks Griff - just saw this... I am doing more work to make it easier to use at some point as I'm going to make it an open source utility (one day) complete with plugins and whatnot

The only reason I am on it now is that it is the only way for me to talk with some family members and friends.
