Adobe Releases Last Linux Version of Flash Player..

Adobe has released Flash Player version 11.2 with many new features. This is last and final Flash Player release for Linux platform and now onward there will be only security and bug fix updates.

Last month Adobe announced that it is withdrawing Flash Player support for Linux platform. All the future newer Flash releases will be bundled with Google Chrome using its Pepper API and for everything else, 11.2 will be the last release.

Ubuntu 10.4 and newer releases have already received this update. Lets look at new features in this release:

*Mouse lock, relative mouse coordinates, right and middle click events — Create immersive, panoramic games with infinite scrolling to enable new classes of content, including first-person games.

*Multithreaded video decoding (Windows, Mac OS, and Linux) — The video decoding pipeline is now fully multithreaded. This feature should improve the overall performance on all platforms.

Adobe has already pulled Adobe Air for Linux in past and now its time for Flash too. In a recent move, Adobe has also announced that developers using latest premium features and generating $50K or more revenue will have to pay 9% back to Adobe and it has angered a large section of Flash game developers. Its well known that Flash Player for Mobile is already dead.

Adobe are apparently determined to force HTML5 into teh mainstream. :-) I have no problem with that, flash is buggy as hell, much worse I think than java before it became mature and stable.

Let's hope that this is what HTML5 needs to get going. I cannot stand flash.

amen to that. If all of the browsers would just support one freakin' audio format for the audio tag, my life would be a whole lot easier.
