Hi!

I was reading about how I can convert files for viewing on ps3, formats, and settings in avidemux... then later I found that PS3 supports MP4 files...

I need to ask How I can make windows media player show the mp4 files in it's library.

I have a home lan network through my wireless router, so I can transfer the files from windows media player to the ps3.... but the problem is that mp4 files don't show up in the wmp11.... please can someone help me in this ??

I read this post, and couldn't understand or verify if it works for XP as well...:

I've stopped watching movies on pc... watch them when I'm free at work... (headphones) .... at home, I don't have a HD cable'd graphics card, so can't watch on tv via pc.... so vlc or klite is not an option. I use PS3 to watch movies, and avidemux to convert mkv etc files to divx....

I need to know how to add mp4 to wmp library, I have vlc, and have used klite... what if I select windows media player as the option for klite media player?? I think klite setup asks for an option between wmp or mpc for playback of movies and files..... would selecting wmp in setup help solve the problem??

Im at work on windows XP, so can't verify if this will work, or that the options will be in the same spot, but you can try changing the association of the mp4 file type. (and, are you using windows vista or windows 7 on your home computer?)
Open Windows Explorer, click on tools and go to folder options (you may have to press the ALT key to bring up the Tools option). Click on the File Types tab, scroll down and find MP4 in the list and click on it. In the bottom half of the screen if WMP isn't listed beside it, click on change, and then select WMP from the list. Apply, OK.

I'm using Windows XP on my home computer... Have been willing to get a new pc, but haven't had any luck getting any attention regarding this....... Will hop association helps, but guess would need klite pack first for the codecs... It's 32bit XP.... at work, I have 64 bit Win7... which is a new pc...

The MPEG-4 file format, as defined by the MPEG-4 specification, contains MPEG-4 encoded video and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC)-encoded audio content. It typically uses the .mp4 extension. Windows Media Player does not support the playback of the .mp4 file format. You can play back .mp4 media files in Windows Media Player when you install DirectShow-compatible MPEG-4 decoder packs. DirectShow-compatible MPEG-4 decoder packs include the Ligos LSX-MPEG Player and the EnvivioTV.

I tried the ps3mediaserver.... but it was too difficult to configure.... so I uninstalled it... I like the wondows media server through wmp11.... works great! except for the mp4 format... divx streams and copies ok... but mp4 creates problem... Thanks for the link...

Microsoft says mp4 files are not supported.
Instead of trying to make then mork I would focus on converting them to a supported format.
Look for an mp4->mp3 converter.
