Allen West on the Marines Incident: 'Shut Your Mouth, War Is Hell'
Daniel Halper
January 13, 2012 1:37 PM

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video, and has given us permission to publish it.

“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

I have to disagree with this. War is hell, but pissing on a corpse is excessive and unnecessary. Whats the point of the war if you end up acting just like the enemy?

Nuf said.
Let the UCMJ take it's course.
If that is court martial or Art15 is up to the military court to decide.

I didn't say the marines were right. I posted this to say that I agree with West. The marines were wrong, but so are the weeping willies.

Not disagreeing with you. But the circumstances behind his retirement make me believe Mr. West should shut his mouth just as quickly as those "weeping willies".

Many soldiers will end up doing things like this, or at least going along with it. It is common in every war. You start see your enemy as inhuman, and lesser beings. They do it, we do it... it nothing new. Were they wrong, yes. Is it horrible, no. Keep it in context... those guys likely would have killed every marine there given the chance.

Dead taliban don't complain. So keep killing them until the complaints stop coming in. Then we've killed enough.

The only reason the Marines will suffer any punishemnt is bcause as usual it has become a war of appearances, while no one cares about mutilated American corpses, take a quick piss on a terrorist and the world flips the fuck out

did we all forget about the corpses hung frm bridges, the corpses drug behind cars, and all the other things the enemy has done? An yet here we are ready to end the career and lifes of a few Marines for taking a piss on a fucking corpse, boggles the mind that this is still America

I don't condone what they did, after all, we are supposed to be better than that---BUT---as a former combat soldier in Viet-Nam---I FUCKIN' GET IT.

So Americans get all pissed off when someone acts like this towards our men, but tell them to eat a dick when we do it to their men. Same old story. The reasons you hate them, are the same reasons they hate you. Bottom line, if you are going to act the same way they do, then don't bitch and moan when they do it to us.

The mistake was ...
TAKING A FREAKING PICTURE!
They wanted to record the event for posterity...
Well... here you go.
