Why 'tis the same 120GB OCZ and good spot - it's a hybrid File Server and HTPC - at least that's the intention.
Windows 2008 Server probably with XBMC on it. My venerable N4100+ can't cope serving out high def stuff any more so the 6450 is for HDMI/HDCP duties.
I had a mini-itx system running in a similar hybrid mode and it worked well apart from the crappy Rocket Raid 640 card I had in there (I won't bore you with the details) and I spotted that these are still on their perennial offer (£100 cashback) so I'm currently rejigging this with some of the internals from the other system.
I'm using an AC Ryan streamer (diskless but similar principle to WDTV) on the one tv (and an LG networked blu-ray player on the big tv downstairs) which has been pretty good but I need some more storage space too (the Thecus NAS is starting to creak) so I bit the bullet on the server..
I've got two 2TB Samsung F3s and two 2TB F4s in this bad boy - fortunately, I got them before the flood so the prices weren't too bad back then! The Thecus has got four 1.5 TBs in it but it's getting a bit long in the tooth now for some of the things I'm using it for.
The server comes in well under £150 with the cashback and a lot of people really rave about them so I thought I'd give it go.
I very nearly got the WDTV Live just before Christmas but refrained at the last moment - the LG tank downstairs doesn't like stuff made with MakeMKV - though I now have a spare ITX board which is saying "Hackintosh" at me! I will probably rig up something with that or use something like TVersity as the wrangler on this box and play it direct through the telly. (I'm not a fan of the menu system though.) A Windows 7 Media Center set up is nice, especially with Media Browser/Stark Covers etc. set up on it. Hmm...
Proper internet hasn't reached these here parts yet, so multiple gig downloads are a pain in the posterior. Happily, a lot of Blurays are dirt cheap at the moment (plus Christmas and my birthday) so a-ripping I go.
I have far too much computer hardware. Even I can admit it. This room has turned into a lair, really. Hmmm...
Ooh, nice one! Thank you, Edorph! I wasn't aware of that though I do like (and perhaps use - though I admit nothing!) - SABnzbd+. I'll check it out once everything's up and running. Currently running a sync job between the RAID arrays on this box and my N4100+ - this'll take a while, I suspect!
