I'm not trying to start an argument but I recall getting a stimulus payment from the IRS not once but twice during Bush's presidency.

no it wasn't a stimulus payment, it was an advance on your estimated refund. I got them as well, and then I had to enter them as a credit that was subtracted from our next year tax return. So they sent me my money. What a favor

I am quite sure it was not an advance given my income at the time but like I said, I do not want to argue... especially since I got called in for work. Have a good one all

I think the key thing is that you got the money, not some corporation. You didn't need government 'transparency', because you already knew what you spent the money on.

tomcat is right, is was billed as a tax credit to stimulate the economy... you did have to claim it as income the following years though.
They projected that for every dollar that was given out that way, three dollars came back in revenue due to how many times that money got passed around.

Pretty much, but the more money can change hands to more often it gets taxed which is why tax cuts almost always increase revenue.
