I've noticed this, and though I am pleased with the reduction, the fact that the same exact thing happened four years ago makes me suspicious of how much power the President (this or any other one) actually has over gas prices.

Am I just being paranoid, or is seeing the same pattern being played out under two presidents in a row during an election year an indicator of something else going on?

While I doubt they have a remote control in their office to set gas prices, I wouldn't be surprised if gas prices became a far more important factor in policy decisions near elections for presidential incumbents. Perhaps there are times when they decide they can live with higher prices at the pump mid-term, in order to achieve some other policy goal.

That's how it works over here, so I'd very surprised if it wasn't the same over there...

Not sure who to blame, I do know Obama failed to get gas to $5 a gallon like he said he wanted to get it to many times during the campaign
