Romney tells students to borrow money 'from your parents'
Fri Apr 27, 2012 5:16 PM EDT

On the same day the Republican/Tea Party-controlled U.S. House approved a bill to maintain low interest rates for Stafford student loans by slashing funds from President's Obama health care law, Mitt Romney had some advice for students who want to start a business: borrow money from your parents.

"We’ve always encouraged young people: take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business," Romney said today before a group of (utterly enthralled) students at Otterbein University in Ohio:

Romney told the story of his friend, Jimmy John Liautaud, who started Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches in 1983 by borrowing $20,000 (some sources cite $25,000) from his parents.

So Romney's solution is ask your billionaire parents for money because we all have those, right?

By the way, you now need $80,000 to open a Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches franchise.

Just for fun, go ask mom and dad if you can borrow that kind of money from them and let us know what they said.

I would rather the people with the resource borrow from their parents then get a government grant that I have to pay for!

I have in hard times taken out loans from my grandparents, would it have been better if I had gone on welfare?

Really. The best you got to compare Obama's silly statements with Romney's is Romney suggested that one's parents help out their kids?

I have no problem with that, seriously. See that seems to be the right path to go with, if you need start up you ask your parents, they are probably your best financial counselors and possibly your best loan resources. Most people would think that is just common sense not some unrealistic stupid thought, that is how it was done in the past. Sure not all parents can afford to help their kids but those who can and are willing should be first resource.

I really don't get how someone can hate on one political party and not the other. Every party is just a group of people that will sell their mothers for a nickel.

It seriously is "same shit, different pile".

The way I look at it Flee is that there are two piles of shit in front of me and I have to eat one. One is half the size of the other so though I am not happy about what I have to eat it's less than what I'd have to swallow from the other pile of shit.
