Oh, hell yeah...

Hey, guys. Which one would be optimal for an old Pentium IV 3.0 HT? While I'm leaning towards 'Puppy', maybe you guys have a different opinion or have had experience with both distros.

The rest of the specs;
2GB RAM
80GB HDD
Shared video (128MB max)
built in sound/lan
PCI wifi card (netgear)

Its either those two or maybe another Distro in mind with a small footprint which you can suggest? Thanks.

I use Voyage on all of my embedded projects. It's designed more for a read-only filesystem, but it's debian based, so you get all of the apt tools, etc. Great distro for that, but I don't think it's what you're looking for.

for the kids slower machines I was using XUbunutu. I even had it running on a Celeron 400 with 512MB of ram, and it did just fine.

I picked Lubuntu for an older laptop. That's a step up from the PIV, though, it's a dual core thingy. But you should be able to run it no problem.

Which of those would run your run-of-the-mill apps (Word Processing, Worksheet, Presentation, media player, drivers for printers) better? Its of course, for the kid's school work.

Both would do that quite well. No problem at all. I think Lubuntu is 'lighter'.

Just tried all three but I opted for Lubuntu. Its pretty quick on the old P4 HT system. Thanks, guys.
