Nudity is returning to the magazine, after a hiatus of about a year, with the upcoming March/April issue. Shown: Cover detail from that issue.

Quote:
‘I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which we portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake.’
Cooper Hefner

That’s Playboy scion Cooper Hefner, revealing, as it were, on Twitter that the magazine at the center of the Playboy empire was reversing its decision to stop publishing nude photographs.

”Nudity,” the 25-year-old son of founder Hugh Hefner and former Hef wife Kimberley Conrad, “was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem.”

Pamela Anderson appeared on the cover of the January/February 2016 issue of Playboy, the last to feature nudity. It was the Canadian-born actress and model’s 14th time on the cover.

Echoing that sentiment: “Naked is normal,” the cover line on the March/April issue will reportedly read. (The phrase immediately was rendered as, in the words of Adweek, a cheeky hashtag.)

In explaining late in 2015 the decision to move away from nudity, Playboy said the prevalence of nudity on the internet had effectively made nudity in the magazine superfluous. Flash forward to 2017: “Today we’re taking back our identity,” read the statement from Cooper Hefner, recently named Playboy’s chief creative officer.

The private-equity firm Rizvi Traverse Management in 2011 took Playboy private along with the now-90-year-old founder, who reportedly retained about one-third ownership.
