I've googled this, and nothing I find actually fixes my problems.

When ever I open a document, the grid ( extras ) are always on. I've tried turning them off and saving the file. I've tried unchecking the dash ( - ) in the view menu. But regardless they always appear. This is a fresh install of CS5 I've used it maybe 3 times since it was installed.

The other issue, not yet a problem with this install, but it always happens. Saving images to web always messes up the actual colors. They look fine in photoshop, but viewing the file externally, the color profile is all fubar. Changing to any of the default profiles doesn't resolve this.

25 points for each problem solved, its driving my crazy.

The only advice I found, but you probably already tried this...

"Turn the grid off while no file is open."

enable/disable hotkey = CTRL-' (that is a single quote)

hold ctrl+alt+shift - a dialog should appear and ask if you want to erase the preferences. this should get your photoshop to the fresh install configuration.
