umm...1 minor little problem, they forgot a whole hemisphere.  A more accurate statement would be the cost to travel the eastern hemisphere for a year.  Can't leave out North and South America and still claim to be a global traveler.

No where is there local transport calculated into those figures. They also have not included airfares to the start and from the end of their trip. This will easily double the cost. I did two months in Europe for about 12,400 USD. This included being bused around major Europe cities, sleeping in tents, and being feed 2 times a day. 1/3 of that cost was airfares there and back from the UK.

I'm also skeptical about the $3000 airfares, did they fly as cargo ?

Hey, Cnik! We all know you've been on the road quite some times, how uch does it cost you? If you go somewhere for a month, how much do you spend for accommodation and food? How much do you pay flights?

Usually it doesn't cost too much. Roughly $1200 for the airline tickets to and from the states and maybe another $1500 for food and hostels along the way (3 weeks). Western Europe seems to be the most expensive, Asia seems to be the cheapest.
